Bruxism refers to the unintentional clenching of the jaw or grinding of the teeth. It will often be triggered by anxiety, stress or anger and results in pain, headaches, extensive damage to tooth enamel and even tooth fractures, In severe cases suffers may experience extensive damage to the jaw and in some cases even jaw fracture.*

In severe cases this can lead to damage to the tempero mandibular joint (TMJ) that connects the jaw to the skull resulting in extensive myofacial pain, myofascial pain dysfunctional syndrome and even jaw dislocation. If the suffer clenches or grinds at night, this can lead to sleep disturbance and of course disturb others.*

Through cognitive behavioural hypnotherapeutic techniques we are able to uncover and address the underlying triggers that lead to your need to clench your jaw or grind the teeth and to alter the stress, anxiety or anger response that may be fuelling the bruxism. We are then able to use techniques such as the ‘Habit Reversal’ technique to install a healthier counter habit so that you longer clench your jaw or grind your teeth meaning that you are able to overcome your bruxism once and for all.*
