Manage Pain with Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a highly effective treatment for a myriad of pain conditions both when used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment and in its own right.

So how does Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy reduce pain?

Well first of all lets’ ask the question, “What is pain?” All pain begins in the brain and is essentially our bodies warning system that tells us when something is wrong!

The problem arises when our brains become sensitised to the sensation of pain, continuing to send out the pain signals long after the injury has been treated and the warning is no longer needed.

Pain has a strong emotional basis. Every emotion that we experience produces a physical sensation in the body of some kind, and at times we experience these sensations in the form of pain. This is known as the mind body connection.

When we experience pain over a prolonged period of time, we enter into what is known as the pain cycle which in turn leads to further pain, stress, anxiety, a sense of hopelessness, depression, fear of pain and of course the expectation of more pain. And since ‘what’s expected tends to be realised’, we experience more pain!

So how can we break the cycle?

Through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapeutic techniques such as visualization, suggestion, cognitive restructuring and dissociation we are able to break the pain cycle. Using hypnosis we are able reduce the perception of pain, develop coping strategies to manage the pain, and reduce anxiety, insomnia, depression and other pain related conditions.

Studies show that prolonged pain and stress inhibits the immune system reducing our ability to heal. Through the use of hypnosis we can balance the homeostatic state allowing the immune system to work more efficiently.

Hypnosis allows you to enter into a state of profound physical and mental relaxation. This re-balances the systems within the body, calming the central nervous system and giving you the tools that you need to take back control of your life.

So what do other people say?

Here are some testimonials from clients whom I have treated for pain conditions.

I hardly dare write this - from the second day on after our session, I've had virtually complete relief from the seriously awful neurological symptoms and dreadful pain in my buttock and leg. Over the last few months I've seen doctors, physios, chiropractors and osteopaths but since this is the first time I've experienced ANY real improvement after such visits, I have to believe this extraordinary relief is due to YOU!
So bless you, Louise, and a million thanks - you've been a massive help in de-stressing me and bringing to a halt the stress/pain circle in my life. Don't worry, I'll keep working on it!

Nicola, Canada

I have been seeing Louise for arthritis in my knee and other joints over the last year. I was sceptical when it was suggested to me by a friend, but I can honestly say that having hypnotherapy has made a huge difference to the pain and my confidence in dealing with it. I will be going back to her once I have my surgery for pain relief and support in my recovery.
